Portraits 05+06 – Pippi and Ronja

Ronja Røverdatter (front) and Pippilotta Viktualia Rullgardinia Krusemynta Efraimsdotter Långstrump (back)

These two girls must not be forgotten! Very brave and self-confident as they are, they have driven many people’s phantasies of what could be, what could have been.

Of the two puppies, Pippi with the orange collar is five minutes elder than Ronja. Pippi is as strong as her namesake and very keen on milk, be it from her mother or out of a bottle. And due to space restrictions in official documents, her real name is only ‘Pippi’.

Ronja is something special. Of course, all puppies are great and fun and develop personalities. And there ist the firstborn Astrid, the always hungry Lasse and Mattis, and and and…

But of all eleven Puppies, Ronja is special as she was born outside! After there had been only six minutes between Mattis and Pippi, and as Fluffy urged to go outside, she was let outside once she had licked dry Pippi. Fluffy made for a near corner in the garden, and not half a minute later, Ronja was born.

As we had read in books about such things could happen, we’ve never taken an eye off Fluffy. As at 7:03 a.m. the sun was already shining, we didn’t even need a torchlight. Fluffy was about as surprised as we were…

Into the green wide open

It has been a sunny and warm day. Just the perfect moment for a first trip into the green garden. So, just after we’ve been weighed we were carried in a big basket into the garden. No lawn-mower has touched the gras this year yet. We’ve been taken by surprise, but… we guess, we can get used to it.

Life can be sweet

Becoming a Puppynaut

Newborn puppies are kind of boring: Life consists of suckling and sleeping. Not even peeing can be done by oneself but needs the massaging help of the mother’s tongue.

But in those initial two weeks, before we open our eyes and ears, our brain develops. Not that we notice, but some clever humans had found out all about it. And they claim, it would help if our brain gets input from the little senses that we have available.

Head held erect: Being upright with the head high up

Heads down. Really down. Upside down.
Supine position: Lie on the back
Thermal stimulation: putting the feet on a cold, damp cloth
Tactile stimulation: being tickled with a Q-tip between the toes

Each of the exercises lasted 3 to 5 seconds only. It was done only once a day.

This early neurological stimulation was done according to the findings and recommendations of Carmen L. Battaglia. More information at http://breedingbetterdogs.com/article/early-neurological-stimulation

Portraits 02+03 – Lasse & Bosse

Originally, Lasse and Bosse were two brothers from Middle Farm of Bullerby.

With only 20 minutes between births of these two puppies, we considered the names to fit nicely. As in the books, Lasse is the older (and larger) one.

Whilst Lasse doesn’t say no to any offered bottle of milk, Bosse is slightly more sensitive.

Lasse will also demonstrate the five different exercises of the SuperDog training programme.

Sleeping isn’t amongst these, unfortunately…

For a few days, Bosse belonged to the not so heavy puppies. But he has made up and is now (at 16 days of age) only slightly lighter than Lasse.

Portrait 01 – Astrid

Astrid was the very first puppy. The only yellow female of the litter, she knows what she wants: milk! Whether from Fluffy’s natural milk bar or from the bottle…

Not much one can say about character as of yet, but look how cute she was newly born.

Astrid was named after Astrid Lindgren. And all of Astrid’s sibblings will carry names of characters appearing in Astrid Lindgren’s widely read childrens’ books.

Half past 4 in the morning…

The bar is mine, yeah! All the milk, it’s all mine…

What a luxury of free choice, where to drink.

But I have to admit, someone had helped me. You see those guys to the right? They were taken out by two bottles of milk.

Two bottles of milk. At half past four in the morning! There ain’t no better way to start the day!

Bottle feeding

As we are so many, our mom has a hard time feeding all of us. A little help from a friend is strongly appreciated.

And to tell the truth, it is convenient in some way or other. No fight for a good place at the milkbar, no empty glasses because the puppy I pushed away did drink it all.

Caressing and milk, lots of milk. With a little help from our friends…

Of course, we’ve already had this “with a little help from my friends” theme…

But hey, have you ever seen me close up, so full to bursting? That milky beard did disappear quickly, believe me.
